The Lights Across the Water
We make our own meaning.
That’s how we make ourselves.
It’s 1971 on Vancouver Island, and fifteen-year-old Nora is consumed by a single ambition: a career onstage. When she joins a youth troupe led by Jon, a charismatic thirty-year-old director, her romantic daydreams morph into dangerous reality as Jon draws her into a secret sexual relationship. When Jon abruptly abandons her to move away with his pregnant wife, shattered Nora leaves home and devotes herself with passion to her new acting job at a studio theater. But distance does not end Jon’s desire to possess her. He pursues her through letters, calls, and sudden visits that drive Nora into a perilous spiral of isolation and anorexia. When at last he tracks her down, Nora must confront her abuse by the man she thought she loved to protect her career, her freedom, and her life.
